A: No! Not when you consider the cost of fading damage and outrageous electric bills. Compared to other quality window treatments like draperies or shutters, our Professional Window Film is a smart, worthwhile investment.
A: In the summer months, placing the Energy “Q”™, Radiant Barrier Paint, Fiberglass -Cellulose – Foam Insulation or grass clippings in the rafters, you are only reducing the attic temperature around 20% to 25%, but have not solved the problem with radiant heat gain entering the living space. Yes the attic is cooler in the summer, but the radiant heat is still entering your home. You are still cooling both the home and the attic space. It is stopping some of the radiant heat transfer, but there are other areas in the attic generating heat; such as the soffit vents and your gables. So, instead of having an attic temperature of 150 -175 degrees you may drop the temperature around 125 to 145 degrees depending on what material is applied. Your attic is only insulated with conventional insulation that only absorbs, slows down and transfers heat. So instead of 150-160 degrees penetrating into your home, you have 125-145 degrees coming into your home. Yes, this will reduce your bill and a/c run time a little, but the heat is still penetrating your home.
By laying Energy “Q”™over the insulation, you have provided yourself with a heat blocker. Energy “Q”™ will perform how it is designed and developed. It reflects 97% of the radiant heat from penetrating into your insulation henceforth into your living space. So does it matter if your attic is 125 -150 or 500 degrees. NO!! The Energy “Q”™ prevents the radiant heat from transferring into your home in the hotter months. You now have a heat blocker rather than a heat reducer. This provides you great comfort as well as lower energy bills while allowing you to only cool the living space instead of the attic space too. By laying the Energy “Q”™ over your insulation, study’s show the material may increase the temperature in your attic by one or two degrees. It does not re-radiate heat but only reflects the heat that is already there and than the heat will escape out the ventilation that is already there and the roof decking. Energy “Q”™ is the solution not a band-aid. It blocks the heat from coming into your living space and balancing out the hot and cold spots in your home.
The Wintertime is the opposite except for the rafter application. By placing Energy “Q”™, Radiant Barrier Paint, Fiberglass -Cellulose – Foam Insulation or grass clippings in the rafters, the homeowner does not benefit at all from this application.
During the cooler months, the homeowner wants to keep the heat in the living space, but unfortunately the heat rises, passes through the sheet rock, the insulation and out the ventilation in the attic. You are still heating your attic space instead of only your living space. Some of the heat will pass through the rafter material with the majority passing out the ventilation.
The only time we install the Energy “Q”™ in the rafters is for a cathedral ceiling where there is no attic space.
A: Radiant Barrier system that stop 97% (such as Energy”Q”) or more of the thermal radiation across an attic space. If it is not stopped, that radiant energy would
be absorbed by the ceiling insulation and eventually be
transferred to the living space below. -"The Solar Collector”, Quartly Newsletter of the Florida Solar Energy Center.
A:The National Bureau of Standards in it's booklet BM552, “Effects of Celing Insullation Upon Summer Comfort” lists
2 layers of aluminum foil as the most effective insulation in protecting the ceiling against summer heat.
A: Thin layers of dust readily visible to the eye do not cause very serious lowering in the reflective power. The
appearance of the surface is not a reliable guide as to the
reflectivity for radiant heat, ad foil which appears dark or
discolored may have lost little in insulating value ‘if’ the surface is thin. -The National Bureau of Standard, U.S. Depot. of Commerce, Letter Circular-535.
A two-sided Radiant Barrier (such as Energy”Q”) having multiple layers of aluminum, should nor not have any
issues with dust collection.
